Deep Game Design Events

Book cover of 'Making Deep Games' by Doris C. Rusch with a night sky and ladder illustration.

If you're into meaningful games that aim to provide players with an emotionally compelling, thought-provoking experience, and you want to learn how to express yourself through making such games, you've come to the right place. The Channel 1 farm gathers a community of creatives / writers / artists and game makers for workshops, retreats and game jams to explore, experiment, and play together. Subscribe or drop me a line to learn more about opportunities to come and make games. You don't need to have any technical skills to start designing games and learning to express yourself through systems, rules and mechanics.

Deep Game Design Coaching

Sometimes, it can be difficult to understand one's own mind, let alone get on the same page about it with others. As individuals or groups, we might struggle to make ourselves understood, to be heard, seen and met. Others may hear what we are saying, but they have a hard time (sometimes despite their best efforts) to take our perspective and really "get it".

A key challenge is that we might not be aware of the rules that govern our inner world. What we are not aware of, we cannot make explicit and explain to others. This is where disconnection originates.

As a deep game design facilitator, I can guide you through a process of creating a game about your specific, lived experience, that helps you understand your underlying "rule system" better. By playing your game, others then can get to experience first hand the key aspects of "what it's like" to walk in your shoes in the situation you struggle to explain.

The point is not to make a great game and there is no need for any technical knowledge or skills. You don't even need to like games in general for this process to be an effective vehicle for self-reflection and communication. If you would like to learn more about this, or book a deep game design session with me, send me a note!
